The Vision Behind NOMAD

Saulius Gurbininkas
DVM PgC(SAS) MRCVS
RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery

After graduating from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in 2013, I moved to Aberdeen to begin my surgical career. I trained at Aberdeen Veterinary Referrals (AVR), progressing from surgical intern to Senior Surgeon, before becoming Clinical Director in 2021. In that role, I managed a demanding caseload while leading within a busy referral environment during a time of significant change in the veterinary profession.

Following several years in referral practice, I took time to reflect on the kind of surgical service I wanted to provide. Continuing to work as a locum referral surgeon, while also supporting both referral and first-opinion practices on a peripatetic basis, reinforced an important belief: many advanced surgical procedures can be delivered successfully within general practice, provided the right expertise, planning, and support are in place.

NOMAD Surgical Solutions was created from that belief. The service is designed to help practices expand their surgical offering, improve continuity of care, and provide clients with more choice, while ensuring referral remains part of the pathway whenever it is in the patient’s best interests.

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and have been an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery since 2018. My aim is to make advanced surgery more accessible and integrated for practices, patients, and owners alike.

Outside of work, I enjoy strength training, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, producing music, and spending time with my two Whippets, Peanut and Freddie, and my Maine Coon, Lushiukas
